Companies Dealing With Hazardous Materials Secret?

City of Zagreb keeps it secret or does not know which companies deal with hazardous materials that are potential environmental threats.

After city government representative Jozo Rados requested explanations why the Hotel Esplanade has an operative plan in case of fire, while Pliva pharmaceutical company does not, members of the Board of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management concluded during their sitting on Wednesday that the city Department for Urban Planning keeps thirteen companies secret – those which deal with dangerous materials and are a potential threat for the environment.

City department advisor Ankica Pojatina stated the office made a list of 113 dangerous companies based on a questionnaire it had sent to 200 addresses, while only the companies which replied were registered.

Nobody controlled the rest because there is no legal groundwork to enable the authentication, nor are there penalties for the companies which keep dangerous matters secret, the Jutarnji list writes.
