Condemnation of NDH Regime Enters Textbooks

Text

The pivotal point in the school programme after a government decision to mark January 27 Holocaust Remembrance Day.

In the past four years there has been a complete transformation in the school programme regarding the Independent State of Croatia (NDH, 1941-1945). As many as 350 teachers have undergone special education on the holocaust.

Senior advisor for history with the Education Agency, Loranda Miletic, has drawn up an educational programme of the Jordanovcc memorial area intended for students of primary and secondary schools.

-- In the summer of 2005, after a cooperation agreement between Croatia and Israel, 25 teachers attended a seminar in Israel and another group underwent the same programme recently – Miletic said.

Croatia joined the programme against anti-semitism and other forms of discrimination and is cooperating with the Shoah Foundation founded by director Stephen Spielberg.

A number of subjects have been selected, such as deportation to camps, collaborations and confrontism, which will be presented to students through videos.

The contents, by entering the schools, should improve the students’ knowledge about the NDH regime whose character is still under-emphasised  in school books, Slobodna Dalmacija reports.
