Croatia: Lufthansa Plane Found With Dead Bodies

Cameras have confirmed the finding of the missing plane, which includes the bodies of the pilot and his student.

-.--.-Search for the missing Lufthansa plane in the Adriatic SeaMEZANJ, CROATIA – Cameras have confirmed the finding of the missing Lufthansa plane at 09:25 hours, which includes the bodies of the pilot and his student, Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure spokesperson Marina Haluzan told the Hina Croatian news agency.

Divers from the island of Mali Losinj were dispatched to the scene early this morning, with an underwater camera which was transported from Zagreb on Saturday with special equipment.

The Lufthansa pilot school Pipper 44 plane went missing on Friday around 12:30 hours from the air control radar and it is assumed it had crashed in the open Adriatic Sea, South from the Dugi Otok island.

Aboard the flight were Croatian citizen Danijel Oleksa, the instructor, and an Italian citizen, Alessandro D`Agatta, the student.

An object the site of an aeroplane was located last night at sea 11 nautical miles off the little island of Mezanj, where it was assumed the plane had crashed. Sonar from a military ship located the outline of the missing plane at 01:23 hours, 63 metres in the sea some 6 nautical miles off the coast of Mezanj near the Dugi Otok island.

-.--.-Lufthansa planeApart from the Mali Losinj divers, who are already at the scene, military ships Fraust Vrancic and Cetina will be dispatched, which are equipped with a crane and can retrieve large objects from great depths.

An underwater camera is now recording the position and determining the way the divers have to act under the water in order to decrease the number of dive ins. Depths in question are great, therefore an antichamber has been prepared for the divers.

- The most important thing is to retrieve the bodies because of the families. Afterwards, the plane will be taken to a hangar and it will be agreed where the crash reconstruction will be performed, as well as an inquest conducted – plane crash investigator Dinko Vodanovic told the Croatian Radio Television.
