Due to frequent daily temperature changes, exchanging warm and cold fronts, experts warn about the occurance of unknown diseases.
Global warming has had an effect on the weather and temperature in Croatia lately.
Due to that, the experts believe that some diseases could develop in our region, which are typical for tropical areas, including with those that have long been extinguished.
‘Croatia used to be a country of malaria which was extinguished successfully in 1954’, said dr. Borislav Aleraj, an epidemiologist at the Croatian Institute for Public Health.
He also said that malaria nowadays could be considered only as a disease of mariners even though malaria mosquitoes were present in Croatia. Epidemiologists carry out strict controls in international maritime transport and air traffic.
‘Climate changes cannot do that sort of damage as could the uncontrolled transport of goods and people in international transport’, Dr. Aleray says. He added that they were always in touch with the World Health Organization, ‘Vjesnik’ reports.
