Text

The foreign minister said at the conference in Rome that ways should be found to secure enlargement and greater efficiency of the Council.

ZAGREB, CROATIA – Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic advocated at a conference in Rome a reform of the UN Security Council so the body could respond to the challenges of the 21st century, especially global threats, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Along with other foreign ministers, Jandrokovic discussed a comprehensive reform of the UN with an accent on the reform on the Security Council, the most demanding part of the UN.

The current structure and functioning of the Security Council do not reflect the reality of international relations in the 21st century, Minister Jandrokovic said in his speech.

Jandrokovic: The Council should have a better response to global threats

The minister assessed that ways and solutions should be found to secure, along with enlargement, greater efficiency and transparency of the work of the Security Council.

It is especially necessary to boost the aptness of the Security Council to respond to global threats and challenges, the Croatian minister said.

He stressed that Croatia is active in this process of reform even as a non-permanent member of the Council.
