ZAGREB, CROATIA – an invalid verdict in the Indeks case was passed at Zagreb County Court, where university professors, mediators, instigators and students charged with illicit enrollement at the Faculty of Transport Sciences. The verdict ended one part of the scandal, while the sequel will take place in June, called Indeks 2. First defendant Dragan Badnjak, former vice dean of the Faculty of Transport Sciences was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
The defendants included 14 persons: Dragan Badanjak, Kresimir Somek, Mladen Budor, Darko Jelakovic, Dario Bizek, Romana Bizek, Ivan Mesec, Darko Mesec, Ivica Markovic, Ivan Buljubasic, Saša Vilicic, Suzana Horvat, Josip Djaković and Franjo Marincic.
In its closing sentence, representative of the Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) requested the most severe punishment for all defendants who did not plead guilty and admit to accepting graft.
The Indeks case indictment first included 16 persons, however, before the closing sentence, USKOK altered the indictment, dropping charges against Domagoj Vrban and Domagoj Horvat.
