Croatia Solved Its Relation To NDH

Text

Slovenia should pay compensation to Croatia because of Quisling units in Istria and Gorski kotar.

There is no talk of modern Croatian state not having solved its relation towards NDH [a puppet state o Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy during World War II, from 1941 until 1945] and the events of World War II and that it has not taken a clear stand on the matter, said academician Petar Strcic on Monday, co-presiding of the Croatian-Slovenian Historic Commission.

In its records from a recent sitting, the committee for European and international issues of the Slovene National Council proposed MPs to “consider relations with Croatia in the light of its alleged NDH heritage”.

The records state that the NDH is still in a way present on the Croatian political scene and that today`s Croatia has not “paid full war compensation or apologised to affected peoples and countries”.

According to Strcic, the case is quite the opposite – Croatia has taken a clear stand on the matter. This is confirmed by its most important document, the Constitution, which states that the foundations of the Republic of Croatia sovereignty in the time of World War II were established on the decisions of the Anti-Fascist Council of People's Liberation of Croatia (ZAVNOH 1943) and then in the Constitution of the People`s Republic of Croatia (1947) etc.

No reason for war damages

Today`s Croatia, he said, has a right relation towards the NDH and there are no problems with the NDH or the Ustasha, which the Slovene National Council is trying to imply.

He said that no Ustasha units were in Slovenia, apart from when they were escaping at the end of World War II, while Slovene Quisling units were located in Croatia: in Istria and Gorski kotar.

- According to silly logic of the Slovene National Council, Croatia could demand war compensation from Slovenia, for the crimes of Slovene Nazi-fascists, white guards and others – academician Strcic said.

He also denied a thesis stated at the sitting of the Slovene National council, which claimed that the “NDH was still present in the political consciousness of today`s Croatia”. This is simply not true, he said, adding that there are individuals who display pro-fascist views everywhere.

Croatian Heritage Rests On Anti-Fascism, Not NDH
