Croatia Will Have Volunteering Officers

Text

Within the Armed forces professionaisation project, the first step will be to freeze military service. Only volunteers will be drafted.

Seeing how the Ministry of Defence (MORH) did the preparational part of work, the project will enter the Government’s procedure.

-This not the question of canceling conscription as a legal category, but implementing a new institution- said the Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic, adding if the need arises, in case of unpredictable situations, mandatory conscription will be reactivated.

As the Vjesnik daily writes, this means MORH will need 2,000 volunteering officers, but if there are more candidates, they will all be enabled entrance to the Croatian Army.

Recruitment will be a selection to volunteer service and to those who do not wish that, and they would be classified in the “non sorted reserves” group.

According to MORH, this period of the professionalisation of the Croatian Army will last until 2010.
