Nobody can do anything on Croatian territory, Borovec responded to the 10-day ultimatum the SSN party gave to the Slovene cabinet.
- People who live on the Croatian-Slovene border in Medjimurje know very well where the border line is, therefore we are not afraid of control points being revoked – Medjimurje prefect Josip Posavec told us.
The Medjimurje County has requested the Croatian cabinet to prevent these intentions of certain Slovenes and expect it to have a firm stand on the matter.
The Slovene People`s Party (SSN) requested the Slovene cabinet of PM Borut Pahor to submit a claim to Croatia within 10 days, for it to remove the border crossings, or as it calls them, temporary control points, Plovanija and Sveti Martin na Muri, which as stated as Slovene territory according to last week`s declaration of the Slovene Parliament.
- After statements of the Slovene Parliament that nobody has the right to negotiate or hand over Slovenia`s contact with the open sea, the integrity of Piran Bay, hamlets on the left bank of the Dragonja River and territory on the left bank of the Mura River near Hotiza to arbitrage. We demand that the Slovene government requests Croatian organs to remove Croatian control points from Slovene territory within 10 days. The Croatian government would have to respond within five days. The Slovene government needs to start acting in a way that will have the goal of realising the protection of sovereignty of Slovene territory towards the situation on June 25, 1991, and now is occupied by Croatia – the SSN claims in its press release, reported by the STA news agency.
We call out President Tuerk and all other political figures to stop inviting citizens to forsake their constitutional right to a referendum.
Croatia Has 10 Days To Remove Crossing Points
When asked what would happen in Slovenes actually tried moving Croatian markations, i.e. if they maintain with the occupation of Croatian territory, Posavec replied he was positive that the Slovene cabinet would not agree to this. According to him, all Slovene spite and threats start with the fact that they want their piece of the Adriatic coast by all means.
- I don`t believe they are interested in other territories as much as an exit to the open sea, which is their main objective. This is on the side, but it is clear that they are only interested in the coast. As far as Medjimurje goes, the border has been set here a long time ago, what is more, another part of Croatian land is on Slovene territory, but we will surely never raise the issue of returning it – Posavec pointed out.
Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) party member Damir Kajin agreed, who said that extreme right-wing persons can demand whatever they want from their government, but they know best that these parts that the Slovenes are now fighting for were never a part of their territory.
- The Slovene side is trying the impossible by verbally attacking, i.e. to attain territorial waters of the Republic of Croatia. However, they know, especially the extreme right-wing persons, that this territory never belonged to them. The case of Josko Jorac proves this, who constructed a house there in the 70s, or the 80s. He did not submit a request for the construction license in Kopar or Ljubljana, but in Buj. Also, he led all his lawsuits in Croatia. Now, will the Slovenes succeed in their intention, based on the unfortunate Drnovsek-Racan agreement, a third party will decide – Kajin said.
“Sanctions for anyone who breaks the law”
- If certain individuals try to provoke Croatia by moving border markations and similar things, such people do not have to be booked by the police. I would send them to the psychiatry ward straight away – Kajin concluded.
The police tell us there is no concern that the Slovenes might create the outcome of the borders by themselves and their spot, because there is clear border surveillance and every violation has consequences. According to Krunoslav Borovec, chief of the police directorate, there are laws on border surveillance, as well as laws on the flag and their violation includes various sanctions.
- Whatever is done in these areas, and opposes the law, we will react according to our authorisation. Nobody cannot do anything on Croatian territory which would violate the law in any way and not pay for it. At the same time, entering Croatia, you have to pass control on the neighbouring border, therefore border police have to do their work – Borovec claims.
