Croatian Non-Smoking Day

Text

Zagreb residents could geta fere check up and advice on the Cvjetni trg city square.

The Zagreb Office for Health, Work, Social Welfare, and War Veterans and the Central clinic for respiration system illnesses have marked the Croatian Non-Smoking Day, "Day Without Smoke" on the Cvjetni trg city square and thus reminded the public of the importance of quitting smoking.

The employees of the Clinic for respiration system illnesses measured citizens' lung capacity (spirometry), carbon monoxide percentage in the air smokers exhaled, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation in the blood.

- This campaign had a huge response. 150 people, mostly retired, had a check up so far – told us Dr. Mirna Kontrec of the Zagreb Office for Health, Work, Social Welfare, and War Veterans, and added that, after the check up, citizens would also get free medical advice. She also pointed out that the Croatian Non-Smoking Day was introduced in 2003, when 368,000 people did not light a single cigarette.
