Croatian PM Prefers Handball To Rehn Visit

Text

Sanader said Croatia will not give up on its positions in negotiations with Slovenia, reiterating he would invite Pahor to a handball match.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - The Croatian government has officially ended the gas supply crisis, but is still working on alternative supply routes for this energy-generating product in order to prevent further gas reductions.

Apart from constructing the Liquefied Natural Gas terminal, connections to alternative gas pipelines are in question, above all the Trans-Adriatic system and the Mediterranean Ring gas pipeline system, whose construction was proposed by the European Commission.

Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader notified the media about the visit of European Union commissioner for expansion Oli Rehn.

- Oli Rehn spoke with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic separately, and he spoke with me. We agreed that this situation cannot remain. I welcome the initiative of the European Commission to solve the frozen situation. Tomorrow, when we find out against whom Croatia will play in the second round of the World Handball Championship, I will invite [Slovene PM Borut] Pahor. If this means something to him, I give my word that we won`t discuss politics during the match. I`m sure the Slovenes are rooting for Croats to become world champions – PM Sanader said.

Although the premier pointed out that Croatia will not give up on its positions in negotiations with Slovenia, he still stated what might happen.

- If the thought would cross someone`s mind, even if one of the other party would decide not to introduce their documents due to blackmail, then international institutions would request all existing documentation – Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said.
