President Mesic said Croatia wants to be part of European Union and that France will help them to conclude negotiations.
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic visited France and French President Sarkozy today. In an interview for Le Monde daily, he said that Croatia will recognize Kosovo’s independence if this is the decision that will be taken by the European Union and the USA. He added that Croatia will join the majority because they want to be part of the European Union.
Mesic also said that the question about the status of Kosovo must not be connected to the solution of the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He said that the future of Bosnia-Herzegovina depends on its three constituting nations, Serbs Bosniaks and Croats, and this has nothing to do with the status of Kosovo.
The president also gave comments on his meeting with Sarkozy. He said that the French president promised him that his country will help Croatia to conclude negotiations to join the EU during France’s presidency term.
