Culmination in HDZ: Jarnjak got involved as well...

Text

Can you imagine Ivan Jarnjak, the politician who is famous for his statement ‘’I don’t want to get involved’’, physically attacking Vladimir Seks in the moment of extreme rage? Even if that encounter has passed in the less drastically manner during the last week’s session of HDZ presidency, the animosity in between Jarnjak and Seks confirms that the party is facing a heavy post-election drama. Jarnjak who stays as the personification of restraint and self-control, no longer hides that he is nervous. Every single thing he has been working on for the policy during the last two decades, his party has turned into dust. The HDZ president eliminated him from the election lists. She didn’t even wait for the State attorney solution on the case where Jarnjak was suspected for being involved in the Fimi media affair. Jarnjak managed to successfully withdraw himself from the story lines, but he will no longer be involved in politics. And if the situation is the way it is, he doesn’t have to suffer the vindictive breakdowns of all-mighty Seks.

And Seks got agitated. If we can believe the anonymous media sources, Seks has already used the same chance to threaten Jarnjak with new indictment, maybe for buying Sanader’s BMW. The threat, which the cunning Seks would usually formulate with a certain gesture, counting on the fact that the rooms were tapped, has slipped out in front of a couple of witnesses. Step by step, Seks has been revealing his connections that have an effect towards judiciary. The thing is that it is not the reflection of his real power but the reflection of his incautiousness and also a sort of anxiety. Seks, who ‘’knows’’ about the new accusations against Jarnjak, probably also knows that there is a pressure coming from the external circles about investigating the responsibility for war crimes in Slavonia…The same war crimes for which Glavas has already been serving his sentence.

But the real battle in HDZ is played around the question whether the party is still going to be led by the system that Tudjman, Sanader and Jadranka Kosor maintained, or is HDZ going to be democratized from the inside. The encounters between Jarnjak and Seks are only the part of the atmosphere where that battle already lasts. After entire 20 years, after huge rises and great falls, inside the current leadership and over the outskirts of that leadership there is a group of people formed that will no longer settle on the unquestioned obedience to the party leader, especially after the party lost the election, in the time when this obedience cannot be paid by the position inside the reign system. A part of the ‘’old’’ HDZ members finally wants to stand up straight. And in the meantime, the youth got toughen up, and they don’t plan to stay forever in the shadow of someone else’s political career.

Jadranka Kosor is still the party president and her chance to modernize this party from the inside still lasts. She could dignifiedly end every discussion about the one or more candidates running for the next party election and suggest the option that many other members of the party leadership currently ask for. But there is no right sign she really recognizes this chance as she didn’t recognize it after Sanader had resigned from the Government, when it was reasonable to expect that the given position of the party boss should be verified among the party members.
