D. Bilic: Maternity More Important Than Politics

HDZ representative emphasizes that in politics there is no fair play. She supports the right for abortion only in exceptional cases.

Danira Bilic, one of our best basketball players, former parliamentary representative and current representative in the Assembly of Zagreb City, will soon become mother for third time, most probably of another girl. Despite the high pregnancy, Bilic took the maternity leave only before two weeks because how she says, did not need it earlier.

Third little girl is coming for less than one month

- I felt good so there was no need for leave - says representative that should give birth for less than one month.

 Regarding ambitions in her political career, former sportswomen says there is no specific plans, and she equally likes the position in Assembly, as well as in Parliament.

- I have entered the politics completely by chance in 2003. Now, when I have seen it merits and demerits, I like to be involved in political life, because from outside you are not able to do anything, but inside you can do at least something - says Bilic mentioning how politics occupation is work as well as any other.

There is no "fair play" in politics

Representative emphasizes how as sportswoman accustomed on the "fair play" is mostly disturbed by the unpredictable political game, in which sensationalism instead of arguments plays the biggest role.

- I think I am too polite for such things, always trying to confirm my claims by arguments, and in the end that stays unsighted - says the representative adding how she seems that the whole line-up of HDZ´s branch office in Zagreb lacks "a bit of wickedness" for carrying out party´s political plans.

HDZ representative on the last session of City assembly held last month, severely opposes giving the scholarship to the pupils and students who are not from Zagreb. On that occasion the whole line-up of HDZ and HSLS (Croatian Social Liberal Party) left assembly provoked by discussion with mayor Milan Bandic.

- I do not oppose giving the scholarships to children from other parts of Croatia, but I do oppose the fact that for scholarship and children from other countries can apply. I am not against excellence how Bandic said, but against that the citizens of Zagreb pay for that excellence -  Bilic said.

Mountain in tropical climate is more developed than Sljeme

Regarding investments in sport, Bilic emphasizes that it is good to invest, but there is lack of strategic ideas, what is profitable for the City, and what is not. Also, she says the City needs polyvalent halls because the current number is not enough.

- Sljeme ski-path, in which great amount of money was invested is not profitable because there are no any plans for the rest of the year. It would be better that the sport halls and objects are constducted instead. It colud serve and for training sessions of top sportsmen and for citizens - says Bilic adding how it is sad that the areas in tropical climate are more developed, concerning the mountain tourism, such as the mountain Tejde on Canary Islands, where former sportswomen have lived for two years.

The most important role is maternity

Bilic received an anonymous threat last year in a letter which states that he will not have a good time if he does not stop talking about Bandic in the city hall. The city official added that the threats were not repeated, and that the sender of the letter is still unknown.

- I was very scared, that was the first threat in my life. I do not know why I was chosen for the threat, because there are other city officials who more strongly support the anti-Bandic regime – says the future mother, and added that maybe thr reason why the threats did not continue is because the culprits saw that she was pregnant,

- I hope that it will not happen again – says the top athlete and politician, who of all roles in her life, stresses motherhood.

- The role of a mother has fulfilled me the most. If I had not achieved that segment in life, all of my other achievements would mean nothing – says the mother with her third child on the way, one of Croatia’s best basketballers and HDZ’s politician.
