With the Slovenian implementation of Euro as the currency, according to experts, possibility of counterfeiting is increased in Croatia.
Border crossing Bregana is cigarette and drugs smugglers` favourite spot towards the European market and transferring people to the west, it is expectedly suspected euro might be illegally released into circulation to Croatia through this crossing.
Right after the introduction of euro in the neighbouring country, the police implemented increased supervision of the border crossing Bregana and Bajakovo.
Further employees education
For the increased surveillance, but also the more extensive education of employed how to discover a counterfeit bill, ten million euro was spent.
Last year due to counterfeiting money 138 charges were filed, out of which 20 percent of the reported were minors, the Vjesnik daily reports.
