Defenders Resentful After Zarko Puhovski Statement

Association of Zagreb Defenders of Vukovar dismissed the statement of Zarko Puhovski who denied the peace role of “Bedem Ljubavi” in 1991.

At yesterday`s International conference on determining the truth after war conflicts, Puhovski, president of the Croatian Helsinki Committee, said “Bedem ljubavi” (Walls of love) did not lead a peace role during 1991.

-This sort of statement is deeply politically incorrect- it is stated in the Defenders` Association announcement.

As they explain, Croatian defenders did not choose the war nor did they wish for it, but they participated in a battle for Croatian sovereignty when Croatia was attacked by the JNA (Yugoslav People`s Army).

They point out that to take away the right of “Bedem ljubavi” to be placed among peace associations, just because sons of some association members put on a Croatian military uniform and headed for the defence of democracy,  represents the worst form of political manipulation.
