Text
Croatian President Mesic was `welcomed` and booed by 300 persons as he arrived in Munich. There were no incidents.
As it was previously announced, a protest against the policy of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic was held in Munich on Wednesday. Some 300 persons took to the streets with the slogan “Time is up…”. The rally initiator, retired bar and hotel owner Ante Brekalo, announced to the police that there would be over 1,000 protestors.
Interesting banners could be spotted, reading “Mesic`s Office – UDBA Pit”, “Partisans and communists are not anti-fascists” and “Bleiburg – a tear on Croatian cheek”, while the rally was held to the backdrop of Marko Perkovic Thompson`s songs.
UDBA was the secret police of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
Mesic`s arrival at the Bayerisches Hof Hotel, where he held a lecture after the invitation of the Herbert Quandt to the theme “Economic and political perspectives of Croatia in the European Union”, was greeted with whistles and chants “Gypsy! Gypsy!” targeting the president.
Croatian priests in Munich have supposedly been distributing leaflets which invite the people to protest against Croatian President Stjepan Mesic. However, the Croatian Catholic mission in Munich said they had no interest in the matter. Mesic said he is not defending communism and that there would be no Croatia had it not been for anti-fascism. He pointed out that “priests who celebrate the birthday of Ante Pavelic, who sold half of Croatia, cannot bring back the Independent State of Croatia or Ante Pavelic”.
- Given that our homeland still does not belong to this developed world, unfortunately, this, the news of Munich protests against Stjepan Mesic, is breaking news all Croatian papers and websites are writing about – Sole said. In addition, he criticised Mesic, who has learned his political craft in a totalitarian system, according to him.
