Djurda Adlesic, Liar Or Victim?

The president of HSLS is being accused of “lying without blinking” by political opponents, and she has had a tough year.

The first scandals connected with the work of Djurdja Adlesic date from February 2004 when USKOK (Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organised Crime) examined her claims and materials which indicated criminal corruption activity by the Mayor of Bjelovar and some other responsible people from the city government and city companies. Doubts that Djurdja Adlesic irregularly disposed of the city budget were not confirmed.

Running for president

This was happening during her running for the president of Croatia, and some said, from her headquarters, if the Croatian voters gave her their trust, she would advocate a new and different Croatia, a young and educated country, not burdened with the historic heritage and support the reforms that will contribute to creating a positive climate and country development. This never happened because Djurdja, as we know, did not win. But that did not stop Djurdja Adlesic in the continuation of her work in politics.

But, it all goes downhill form there when the HSLS president collapsed in front of a church this summer on holiday of the Great Lady Mary, and was unconscious for 20 minutes. Adlesic visited doctors at her friend’s insistence, because she put it down to the years and fatigue.

Promotion of illness

After a CAT scan in Bjelovar, Djurdja Adlesic had a shock because the diagnose was very bad. Namely, according to the results it was a tumour on the posterior lobe, which is malignant in most cases and survival is very questionable.

After the results, Adlesic went to Zagreb for additional tests, with which it was confirmed she had meningeon – a benign tumour, located 2.5 centimetres in the frontal lobe, for which the chances of a recovery are much greater.

Upon deciding to go into surgery, a part of the doctors proposed treatment abroad, but Adlesic decided to stay and be treated at the Zagreb Rebro clinic because she had endless trust in dr. Paladino. The media followed the whole development of the situation first hand, and to protests how she overdid with the media exposure of her illness, she replied how she was too weak to defend herself from persistent journalists and it was her duty to tell the people who pay her she will not be working for a certain period of time.

The surgery went well, the tumour was removed and Djurdja recovered so fast she went on an official visit to Chile during her sick-leave. To political opponents` attacks she replied how her trip to Chile was unavoidable because no-one could have replaced her. On “working” sick-leave, she also managed to point out to an injustice towards Members of Parliament whose salary is cut down to 4,260 kuna during their sick-leave.

But, Djurdja, in managing her household budget can be helped by her husband Stasko whose salary is somewhere between 15 and 20 thousand kuna. The affair broke out over that as well because her husband recently found employment as a Board of Directors member of the Craotia-Tehnicki Pregledi company, the daughter-company of the Croatia Insurance, in which her party colleague Hrvoje Vojkovic is the head of the Board of Ddirectors.

But, Adlesic denied any type of involvement in this a number of times, claming her husband is not employed by the Croatia Insurance company, but by the company Tehnicki pregledi in Cazma, and he found employment through a tender for which no-one else applied.

Her education

The first lady of HSLS, officially a Croatian language teacher, has for years been lying about her education. And she appears to be doing it today as well.

Namely, until a year ago, HSLS official web-site reported how Djurdja Adlesic graduated from The Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb and Pedagogical Academy in Zagreb. Today it states that Djurdja studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Pedagogical Academy in Zagreb. We decided to ask her for an explanation.

She personally denied her official biography in that interview. Firstly, she said how she graduated Comparative Literature at The Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. Asked if she graduated from the Pedagogical Academy she answered that she had never studied it in Zagreb.

-I graduated it in Banja Luka, passing a difference in exams from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb-she said.

After the conversation with her, the new HSLS spokesperson, Andrea Latinovic, contacted Javno and additionally clarified her education path.

-Djurdja Adlesic graduated Comparative Literature in 1984 with a thesis in Theatrical Studies with professor Maja Hribar-Ozegovic. She never graduated Philosophy, her B major at the Faculty of Philosophy- said the spokesperson.

However, she added, she could not work in a library with only one graduated major, which was her desire, so she enrolled in the Pedagogical Academy in Banja Luka where she got her teacher’s title, by passing the difference in exams..

“She lies, without blinking”

Apart from that with a negative connotation, Hrvoje Vojkovic brought her grief because of the alleged wife-abuse. Namely, “the young lion” of HSLS was reported by his wife Diana for domestic violence at Djurdja Adlesic`s insistence due to long-standing physical, emotional and economic abuse. That is how Vojkovic became the first HSLS member to offer his mandate at the party’s disposal. All of these affairs raise a question whether Djurdja Adlesic is going through life lying without blinking or are somebody else’s interests at stake here which obstruct her in her struggle for a new and different Croatia, a young and educated country, not burdened with historic heritage.
