The celebration of launching Dm green project 2012 was held on Saturday, one day before the Earth’s Day. As this year was announced as the International Year of energy efficiency there will be some other events in May and June. The Day of nature protection will be celebrated by the ecological fashion show and the Day of environmental protection will be marked by dm women’s race. The aim of both events is to raise the awareness and responsibility of citizens in their everyday lives. A great number of the citizens of Zagreb supported the green initiative on Cvjetni Square. They joined the educational and entertaining workshops. The President of the Republic of Croatia prof.dr.sc. Ivo Josipovic and the Minister of nature and environment protection dr.sc. Mirela Holy spent some time with the representatives of Zagreb eco-schools which took part in the action called “Green step”. They motivated the young ones to put some more effort into looking after nature and protecting the environment.
“The projection of Croatia as the green eco-country is extremely important because we count on Croatia as being the country of tourism, healthy food and health in general” the president Josipovic said and pointed out that if we don’t protect the environment and care about energy efficiency, our plan will fail.
The green initiative at Cvjetni Square was supported by the Mayor Milan Bandic as well. He tried the healthy food which had been prepared by the chefs from the famous show “Masterchef”. They used the healthy Alnatura ingredients and prepared the dishes in the eco kitchen of dm Green City Project. The solar energy from a solar panel was used to prepare the meals.
The peak of the event was the announcement of rewards for the most prominent individuals and companies which acted in the field of ecology. The aim was to raise awareness and motivate the citizens to take an active role in the protection of the environment. The representatives of five schools that were successful in the action “Green Step” will be rewarded on the 14th of June during the special ceremony. This action was organized in 2011 and the school children from primary and secondary schools collected 370 tons of old paper. By doing this they have saved 1,224 cubic meters of Croatian woods. The action called “Green Step” goes on and the representatives of five schools will be given the device called “Krijesnica” from the firm dm. The money for this was earned by selling the canvas bags. This device is the original Croatian product and it saves more than 50 percent of electricity. It gives light which is similar to the sun light and completely safe for your eyes.
