11,200,113 tourists visited Croatia in 2011. Over 65 million overnight stays have been recorded according to the Croatian National Tourism Office.
This shows an 8 percent increase in the total number of tourists in comparison with the year 2010. The same percent has been recorded in the balance of foreign tourists, since 9,907,827 have chosen a Croatian destination, while the number of local tourists has gone up for four percent with 1,292,286 guests.
Regarding foreign tourists in the last season, there has been an increase in the number of tourists from Slovenia by 12 percent, Austria by 11 percent and Germany by 10 percent. The most attractive tourist destination was the Split-Dalmatia County, which has been visited by 1,881,741 people.
Out of the total of 65,116,830 overnight stays, which is seven percent more than the previous year, the most have been recorded in Dalmatia (29.742,157), whereas the City of Zagreb (10 %) and Istria (8,49%) record the largest increase in the number of overnight stays.
Despite recession and unfavorable economic situation of Croatian citizens, their share in the total number of overnight stays is 6,704,966, which is five percent more than in the year 2010. The number of overnight stays of foreign guests is larger by seven percent and amounts total of 58,411,864.
