In sensitive political issues, there are moments for secret and public diplomacy, now we are in the phase of secret diplomacy, says the EC.
In sensitive political issues like the Croatian-Slovenian border dispute, there are times for secret and public diplomacy, and now we are in the phase of secret diplomacy, said the spokesperson of Olli Rehn, the expansion commissioner.
“I believe that in sensitive political issues there are moments for secret and public diplomacy. In this issue, now we are in the phase of secret diplomacy” said Krisztina Nagy. She explained why the commission at this moment does not want to give any details concerning the thoughts of Rehn on solving the Slovenian – Croatian border problem, due to which the Croatian negotiations with the EU were blocked.
Nagy repeated the words of commissioner Rehn, which he said on Wednesday in Ljubljana, which he repeated in the European Commission report on Thursday morning, which stresses that the Commission is ready to solve that issue if both sides are willing.
Rehn came to Zagreb unannounced on Wednesday, after his visit to Ljubljana, where he spoke to Slovenian officials.
After those talks, he said that he brought forward ideas that might contribute to the solution of the Slovenian blockade of the Croatian accession negotiations with the EU, but he did not want to talk about the details, but said that they need to be conveyed to the Croatian side, and that time is needed for their success.
