The main goal of the European No Car Day is to raise public awareness about pollution caused by vehicles.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – The European No Car Day will be marked on September 22 in Croatian towns, including Vukovar, Zagreb, Bjelovar, Crikvenica, Kutina, Ivanic Grad, Koprivnica, Rijeka, Velika Gorica and Zabok.
The European No Car Day marks the end of the European Mobility Week which is marked from September 16 through 22 with the theme ‘Clean Air for All’.
The main goal of marking the No Car Day is to raise public awareness about the serious pollution caused by the unreasonable use of cars and spur the return of pedestrians, cyclists and public transport into city centres. This is a European Union initiative that promotes sustainable transportation in cities and raises awareness of citizens about the environment, health and quality of life.
The Croatian Environment Protection, Urban Zoning and Construction Ministry called on towns and local authorities to join in the initiative.
The chairwoman of the Croatian parliament’s Environment Protection Committee, Marijana Petir, urged citizens to join Europeans and drive cars less and use public transport, bicycles or walk more, not only on No Car Day. She also urged town mayors to increase the quality of public transport and build bicyclist tracks and expand pedestrian zones.
