Activists of the protest `Tighten your belts, gang of thieves´ will probably not get a stage for their protest from the city of Zagreb.
ZAGREB, CROATIA - Zagreb’s activists, the organizers of the protest “Tighten your belts, gang of thieves” claim that the city of Zagreb rejected to give them a stage for holding the protest, writes the newspaper Jutarnji List.
They requested a stage at Ban Josip Jelacic Square, for the period of one hour, for the needs of the protest. They requested this from the concert directors of Zagreb, who accepted if the city approves, who own the stage.
“When I came to the city government, they told me that the stage (which is already at the square) is intended for Christmas concerts, and not for protests, and that they will not give permission. However, they said that we can arrange everything with the concert directors if we have police permission for the protest to be held. We have police permission, but we do not want some of those people to get fired on Monday because they let us use the stage” said Josip Dell’Olio, the coordinator of the protest in Zagreb for Jutarnji.
Davor Jelavic, the head of the office, says that they received an official request to hold the protest, but that they have not received any request for the stage.
“All of the permits for holding a protest must be reported to the police. We have nothing to do with that, and we did not receive a request for a stage” says Jelavic.
