Foreigners to Take over University Hospital

Text

Andrija Hebrang announced an international public tender for the University Hospital, but it will not be issued for at least a year.

ZAGREB, CROATIA – The University Hospital, a building of 2200,000 square metres in Zagreb’s neighbourhood of Blato still stands neglected and only the storage areas are in use which the city is renting at favourable cost to companies, museums and theatres.

The city’s health chief, Zvonimir Sostar, announced a meeting with Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor to agree on further procedure regarding the University Hospital and added that those who are renting the storage space will not be affected for now.

Asked about future plans for the hospital and what will the fate of the building into which 157 million euros have been invested, presidential candidate Andrija Hebrang told the Vecernji list daily that a company which should be in charge of the project should be founded soon.

The company should be founded by the government and the City of Zagreb, after which an international tender will be issued, Hebrang said. But nothing of the aforementioned cannot be expected to happen for at least a year and a half.

Both the state and the City of Zagreb announced late last year a solution to the neglected University Hospital. Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic agreed to set up a joint company which should complete the construction works and equip the University Hospital.
