The Constitution Committee proposed four candidates for three vacant offices as Judges of the Constitutional Court.
ZAGREB, CROATIA - The Constitution Committee proposed, without the members of the opposition, four candidates for three vacant offices as Judges of the Constitutional Court: Slavica Banic, Marija Jelusic, Mirjana Jurisic and Duska Sarin.
These candidates received through six votes from the members of the committee through a secret voting. Only six members of the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) and representative of the Bosnian minority Semso Tankovic remained until the end of the sitting.
Slavica Banic is the manager of the Cabinet’s Office of Legislation and chief editor of the “Narodne Novine” (official Croatian newspaper). She has already worked for the Constitutional Court as adviser, and she was employed also in the Croatian parliament.
Mario Jelusic is a respectable scientist and professor of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, which supported his candidature.
Mirjana Lurisic is a judge of the Administrative Court, and her candidature was supported by the Association of Croatian Judges. Her résumé reads that, before her career in law, she was employed in parliament and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Duska Sarin is a judge of the Municipal Criminal Court in Zagreb and doctor of science in constitutional law.
