Glavas To Get Funds for Electoral Campaign

Text

According to a parliament decision, the HDSSB will receive funds for the electoral campaign.

Although, according to the law so far, only parliamentary parties could receive budgetary funds for their electoral campaign, the parliament made a decision that independent MPs and minorities with the status of independent MPs also be financed.

This decision will cost the government budget 2.3 million kuna.

HDZ’s plan goes bust

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) failed to collect sufficient votes to implement their idea that the money be divided only among parties that were in parliament in December 2003 and not to those parties that were founded during that term.

The suggestion was primarily opposed by independent MPs Slaven Letica and Ivo Loncar.

Voters are not to be bought

Their claim was that they would not vote for the provision through which the HDZ wanted to retaliate against Branimir Glavas, Vecernji list reports.

-- The HDZ thought that we will not get votes if they do not give us money. But, voters are not to be bought with money – said Ivan Drmic of the Croatian Democratic Alliance of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB).
