Government Filling Budget from Pension Funds

Text

PM Sanader and the government are refusing to adopt necessary measures to exit the crisis because they are guarding positions for elections.

ZAGREB, CROATIA – MPs of the Social Democratic Union (SDP) said on Tuesday that the Croatian government and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, instead of decreasing budgetary expenditures and passing other measures to exit the crisis, are intending to fill the holes in the budget by taking  23 billion kuna from pension funds.

- All their mistakes, all their sins, the government is today trying to finance from private resources of people who paid insurance in the second insurance pillar – SDP’s MP Zeljka Antunovic told a news conference in parliament on Thursday.

- There are 23 billion kuna in pension funds on which the government has its eye on in a perfidious way by promising to assume the care about pensions and the second insurance pillar – Antunovic said.

They are guarding positions for the next elections

- The government has shown that it is incapable of observing the law by which the state is obliged to care about the pensions until the insured person dies – she said, adding that even those people who pay insurance in the first pillar should be worried about their pensions.

She is convinced that Sanader and the government are refusing to adopt necessary measures to exit the crisis because they are guarding positions for the coming local elections.
