Government Stomps on Media

Text

With the Internal Affairs Ministry threats of law-suits, Macek issued out a communiqué in which he called out the media

Due to headlines how police is protecting the son of a parliament representative, Josip Dakic, Hrvoje, and because of an alleged physical confrontation, the interior ministry spokesperson Zlatko Mehun announced that law-suits might possibly be filed against certain media.

At the same time, a communiqué came from the government’s PR office, stating the media are performing a premeditated campaign against Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, trying to create “the watch case”.

Unfounded writings of 40,000 euros

-It is a case of unfounded and sensationalistic writings which have a goal to try to destroy the reputation and credibility of the prime minister- it is stated in the statement.

That is why they point out in the government that media writings of the almost 40,000 euros-worth of watches owned by the premier have a starting point based on untruthful and constructed claims, and that earlier issued information is being intentionally neglected.

With such a sensationalistic approach and a false concern for the public wellbeing, an image of undesire and social harm of private property and the respect of private entrepreneurship is being created - it was said.

Among other things, the PR office notices false populism of the media which is trying to advocate the return to the old, over-ruled social system of socialist and communist morale and values of uranilovka and egalitarianism.

-Croatia came out of that system in order to create a society of wealth, entrepreneurship and free market in which values will not be governed by politically and interest-coloured media persecutions-it was concluded in the statement.
