Handball Home Already Costs Half A Million Kuna

Text

City has already spent 510,000 kuna for the Handball Home in Svetice, without any construction being started there.

Sometimes the old saying “Think before you leap” is true, and if not this one, then at least think about what you wish for before you give away 510,000 kuna. This goes to Mayor Milan Bandic and his team who decided on who will perform the construction of the Handball Home in Svetice. The decision of the construction performer was made after two tenders.

In the first tender, which ended in April 2006, architects Masa Garic and Sasa Menicanin of Rijeka won, who received an award of 150 thousand kuna for that. Second place went to Andrej Radman and Igor Vrbanek, together with 95 thousand, and the third prize of 50 thousand kuna was awarded to ATP projektiranje company. The project of Vinko Penezic and Kresimir Rogina was awarded with 25 thousand kuna, the Vecernji list daily writes.

Still, then they comment from the Handball Association how they are not satisfied with the proposed ideas and the tender is repeated. President of the Architect`s Association Hrvoje Hrabak explained that it was an uncomfortable situation when he realised the projects did not match the demanded requirements. At the beginning of August another tender was carried out, upon which  only six architect were called. All authors and jury members had to agree it will be held. Afterwards, previously fourth positioned Penezic and Rogina won, additionally receiving a 50 thousand kuna award.

Generally speaking, without a single brick being laid down on that area, the city has spent 510 thousand kuna at the very beginning, because all the awarded subjects kept the money. Finally, this “Handball factory”, as Penezic and Rogina baby talk of its project, is supposed to cost 175 million kuna in total.
