DC OSIJEK ASKS:

According to their calculations, Mayor Anto Djapic should have been thirsty and starved to save EUR 100,000 with his 26,000 kuna salary.
- According to the data Osijek’s Mayor Djapic reported in his property card, his real-estate values 5.9 million kuna. If we divide this sum with the number of months from 1990, it shows that Djapic should have put aside almost 30,000 kuna every month – said Miroslav Simic, the president of the Democratic Centre party’s (DC) Osijek County committee, told Wednesday’s news conference. He added that it was unacceptable that individuals had not reported their vast real-estate or had not explained its origins.
His party, by simple mathematic operation, came to very interesting data.
- If Anto Djapic, who today owns property worth 800,000 EUR, inherited 200,000 EUR and saved 100,000 EUR and got a loan for a flat worth 500,000 EUR with the most favourable interest rate, his monthly instalment would have been 20,000 kuna for the next 30 years - the DC members claim. They also say that he would have a mortgage worth 500,000 EUR and a life insurance which he would pay 2,500 kuna a month.
- So, if Mr. Djapic doesn’t eat or drink or have any other life expenses, he should have a 26,000 kuna monthly salary in order to save EUR 100,000 through 17 years – said Miroslav Simic. He also wondered how Djapic had the right of occupancy in a Zagreb apartment which he later bought off.
Consequently, DC Osijek urges competent authorities to screen the origin of Mayor Djapic’s real-estate and, in case there is no explanation for it, the member of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) should be legally and politically sanctioned.
