Zagreb branch of HCSP Party showed great discontent over the fact that Zagreb Holding ordered 251 cars although they are in heavy debts. At the same time, Holding put higher prices on their public services. This is what they have written in their statement:
Zagreb Holding has ordered new 251 cars for their employees so one can conclude that this mega firm from Zagreb has a lot of money. On the other hand we can all see that they have been threatened with bankruptcy and heavy debts and losses. Isn’t it hypocritical? At the same time they are putting higher prices on public transport and are angry at initiatives not to pay tram and bus fares. They order the cars for the money they got from tax payers, isn’t that right? By the way, what do they need new cars for? Maybe they want to drag us into deeper debts and losses. Their employees should be the example of using and paying for public transport.
Of course, they can’t be expected to use public transport when we know that the cost of fares is too high. Let’s calculate the cost for the average family with four children who want to go to have ice cream in the city center. The ice cream for six people is about 30 HRK while at the same time the cost for going into city center by tram or bus is 144 HRK (or even 180 HRK if you buy tickets in the vehicle). How can they expect that people will pay for public transport when a simple family journey to the city center costs about 200 HRK?
Therefore, although the initiative for not paying for public transport is not legal, it is completely legitimate and justifiable. No one has the right to say that the average citizen who works for small salary should pay for the debts of others and be responsible for embezzlements.
