President Mesic was surprised by the proposal, but as he says, he intends on ending his mandate in the constitutional timeframe.
ZAGREB, CROATIA - The leaders of the ruling HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) offered the Croatian president Stjepan Mesic a mandate extension of one year, reports the daily Jutarnji List.
The unexpected offer, which he initially did not consider to be serious, was given to him by the former premier Ivo Sanader, the president of the Croatian Parliament Luka Bebic, and the vice-president of the Croatian Parliament Vladimir Seks, as well as by one of the heads of HSS (Croatian Peasant’s Party), who are HDZ’s most important coalition partner.
According to Jutarnji List’s sources, Mesic was surprised by the proposal, and as it is stated, he intends on ending his mandate within the constitutional timeframe.
