By testifying in the trial against Branimir Glavas, Seks brought shame on himself and Croatia by committing perjury.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – Because of his testimony in the trial against Branimir Glavas for war crimes in Osijek in 1991, Vladimir Seks, who testified that traitors about whom he knew nothing about committed the crimes, should no longer perform the function of deputy parliament speaker or any other functions in authority, the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) said at a news conference on Friday.
According to the HHO’s Mladen Godek, with his false testimony and his attitude towards justice, Seks brought shame on himself and Croatia as a whole.
- As it is well known, in 1991 Seks performed key functions in Osijek. Because of this it was expected that he would recognise the significance of his testimony and assume at least some responsibility for the tragic events in Osijek. Instead, Seks mocked the Croatian justice system with his testimony. He did not testify about some things because he knew that some things in Osijek were widely known, as they were known by those who were there at the time – Godek said.
According to sociologist Drazen Lalic, Croatia is returning to the criminal 1990’s.
- With his crimes, Seks caused cynicism and carelessness of the authority in Croatia – Lalic said.
In his testimony, Seks said he knows Branimir Glavas because he was a member of the crisis centre for Osijek and later commander of the defence of Osijek. He said about Gordana Getos Magdic that he knew her through her father, with whom he was a family friend, as well as with his parents.
