IVAN FUMIC:

MARCH 6 2009 13:02h

I Know Nothing About Murders, I Was in High School

Text

Fumic knows of nothing that went on in 1945, or where the Huda pit is, but he used to claim people killed each other in Bleiburg.

ZAGREB, CROATIA – Several days ago, a mass grave was revealed in Slovenia containing 300 to 400, and according to some estimates, even more than 1,000 bodies of Croats and Slovenians. The exact number of bodies and their identities will probably remain a secret because the bodies, thrown into the Huda pit, had been covered with lime and most of the bodies are in the last stages of decomposition.

Although the exact culprit for the murders committed in Slovenia in 1945 is unknown, the media are pointing the finger at the then Slovenian partisans, but also other members of the People’s Liberation Army, calling the Huda pit one of “fifteen Slovenian Srebrenicas” and the murders themselves an example of “one of the worst forms of violence of the communist regime”.

“I don’t know what went on there…”

One of the members of the Jasenovac Camp Victims Council, Ivan Fumic, used to loudly voice his stances about “suicides” in Bleiburg and murders in Jasenovac.

His statement regarding the Huda pit is therefore, very surprising:

- In May of 1945 I was a high school student, so I don’t know what happened before that. I don’t know where the Huda pit is or what happened there – said Fumic, who had previously claimed that the Bleiburg field was only a symbol of the end of the People’s Liberation War and that stories about mass graves there were exaggerations.

On one occasion, he said that “20 Ushashi who killed themselves” were buried at the Bleiburg cemetery.

Fumic tends to denounce the Catholic Church, that is, its ignoring crimes committed in Jasenovac.

- The very top of the Catholic Church avoids Jasenovac, yet they visit Bleiburg. Those who locked us up received their pensions, while nobody took care of paying us damages – Fumic said on another occasion.

Commending on the Huda pit, the representative of the Jasenovac victims again touched upon the Church.

- It is now modern to slam the People’s Liberation War and exalt Cardinal Stepinac and the Ustashi – he said, still not offering any comment for more than 300 bodies killed either by blunt objects or guns, who died slowly in a hermetically sealed mass grave.
