Recently elected Mayor of Varazdin Goran Habus, the HNS member and a candidate of Kukuriku coalition for local elections, caused the traffic accident driving his official vehicle. Although the car crash wasn’t severe, there was around 2000 HRK of damage, and the accident happened when Habus got in a way of another car driven by a female driver. Luckily, no one got hurt in this car crash, and the Mayor of Varazdin was taken to hospital for a test that proved he had 1.58 promiles of blood alchohol.
Although the opposition members of Varazdin were pointing out on his failure few days after the accident and drunk driving, asking him to resign, this HNS member doesn’t want to hear about it. As he said, this was his failure and mistake.
- I will take responsibility for this incident but I think that the best thing for the City of Varazdin is not to resign. My resignation means there should be new elections announced, and there is no time for new elections. The problems of the City of Varazdin are huge and urgent and they must be solved - said Habus in his interview for Jutanji list journal.
However, it seems that Habus has mixed up few things. He talks about the responsibility towards the citizens and the city budget and on the other hand he was enough arrogant to sit in front of the steering wheel of the official city car financed by those very citizens, especially after quite a lot of alcoholic drinks.
If he had thought about the benefit of the citizens and the problems of the City, this recently elected Mayor: a) wouldn’t have drunk that much if his intention was driving a car afterwards, b) would have asked someone else to give him a lift, if he had already drunk that much, c) wouldn’t have driven the official car while being drunk in his free time. Habus would have done all those things if he had felt at least responsible towards the citizens.
But Habus, as it seems, didn’t feel responsible towards the citizens in any second, towards those very citizens on which benefit he alludes. Even the light traffic incident with the small material damage is not a problem. That kind of traffic incident happens every day.
The problem is he was completely drunk driving his car. The problem is he had 1.58 promiles of blood alcohol, and every person who drinks knows what that means. Habus poured in around two bottles of wine at least. And then he decided to steer a car. And now he thinks it isn’t necessary to resign since he was elected a week ago and new elections are too expensive for the poor City of Varazdin.
Yeah, it is completely fine to have a mayor who will be drunk driving his car since it is only his lapse. Until he won’t be completely drunk out of two bottles of wine to cause quite heavier traffic accident. Whose lapse that would be then?
