Ivica Kirin has submitted his irrevocable resignation today as Interior Minister.

Ivica Kirin has submitted his irrevocable resignation today as Interior Minister, Zlatko Mehun, Interior Ministry spokesperson, confirmed.

Kirin`s letter of resignation to Prime Minister Ivo Sanader states her considers his resignation to be a personal, moral act and duty in relation to circumstances in which he found himself in the Croatian general Mladen Markac`s case.

- I express greatest regret and apologise to everyone who was in any way hurt or damager because of it –

- I thank you Mr. President, for your given trust and co-operation and wish success in further running the Croatian cabinet – it is said in the letter, reported by the Interior Ministry’s PR Office.

Mladen Markac was arrested at 14 hours today in his home in Tucanova St. and is supposed to be transferred to The Hague custody tomorrow.

Kirin invited general Mladen Markac to the so called "Christmas hunt". The general accepted the invitation, thus violating his provisional release.

Markac is jointly accused alongside former Croatian commander Ivan Cermak and Croatian General Ante Gotovina of participating in a "joint criminal enterprise" to drive the ethnic Serb population from the Krajina region of Croatia in 1995.
