The renewed Cadillac Eldorado that Josip Broz Tito drove in Brijuni has been unveiled in Krapina.

The keys to the car that was renewed and now has authentic parts installed were given to Stjepan Susec, head of the supervision and protection office of the Brijuni National Park by Antun Presecki, the owner of the Krapina-based company Presecki grupa that had renewed the Cadillac.

From now on, said Susec, the wealthier visitors to the island Veliki Brijuni will be able to enjoy a ride in Tito’s renewed 1953 Cadillac.

Even though many people from the former Yugoslav republics claim that they own the cars which Tito drove, Susec says that he himself witnessed Broz driving only this Cadillac during his frequent visits to Brijuni.

The impressive Cadillac convertible was undergoing repairs for almost four months at the Presecki grupa body shop in Veliko Trgovisce. The employees spent as many as 1,300 hours working on the presidential automobile in order to restore its old splendour. The Cadillac was driven in a HAK (Croatian Automobile Club) vehicle to Fazana and then shipped to Brijuni. HAK also took part in the renovation process.

Tito’s convertible was discovered in a storehouse in Fazana in 1992. At the time, it was not fit to be driven.
