Ljubicic: The percentage of women in the Parliament only 19.8 per cent

Text

- The women are underestimated. All the institutions should work for the larger number of women in our politics – Visnja Ljubicic, the new representative for equal rights of men and women in the Republic of Croatia, said in Split today.

She pointed out that she has got many complaints about the human rights violations, mainly from women. The majority of these are about work and employment. The other category is the family violence, and the heaviest violation refers to the right to live. The women turn to the representative with terrible stories.

The percentage of women in the Croatian Parliament is not enough. There are only 19.8 per cent of women. Besides, when we look at the candidates’ lists, the women have been put very low. There is the new law of equal rights and now we will be able to see if the parties are going to put women higher onto their lists. In France, for example, they pay the fines rather than position the women higher.

- We are not satisfied with the position of women in Split- Dalmatia County – Ivanka Luetić- Boban, the president of the Committee for equal rights of men and women in the largest Croatian County, says. She points out that there are 23 thousand women registered in the Split employment agency. This is the number of the citizens of entire town like for example, Solin. It is a complete disaster. Women want to change this image of theirs, they want to work. They want to get closer to the Scandinavian situation when it’s about the percentage of their presence in politics.
