The historical building on Medvednica slopes – Medvedgrad, a popular Zagreb’s tourist destination that is visited by 50 people every day. At least 70 percent are tourists to whom Medvedgrad ‘’is smiling’’ as they enter the city Zagreb. They like to visit Medvedgrad's ancient walls – mostly by taxi service. In the next two months, the north part is to be renewed and therefore will be closed because of the visitors’ safety – informed the principal of the Nature park Medvednica Nives Farkas – Topolnik.
She also revealed the fact that Medvedgrad was visited by 11 thousand people during the recent two-day action ‘’Medieval days on Medvednica”. Medvedgrad has been transferred from the jurisdiction of the government to the public institution ‘’Park of nature Medvednica’’. During that time the north wall collapsed and that’s why we had to close and rebuild it, Nives Farkas-Topolnik pointed out.
- We received 200 thousand HRK from the Ministry of culture and we started the renovation.
The north wall is at the very entrance of Medvedgrad, that’s why we had to close the entire historical building including the Altar of the state due to the citizen’s safety. If the weather allows Medvedgrad will soon be re-opened for the visitors, said the principal.
In the Public institution ‘’Park of Nature Medvednica’’ they are hoping that the bus route to Medvedgrad will be realized after a new and better road is finished. That would cheer up foreign tourists that are using taxi service as the means of transportation.
