Mesic Supports SDP’s Proposed Constitution Changes

Everyone who went to war for personal interests, harmed Croatia, said Mesic.

The president of Croatia, Stjepan Mesic supported SDP’s (Social Democratic Party) proposal to change the constitution, with the aim to punish the perpetrators of crimes during transformation and privatization. At the anniversary celebration of the 10^th high school “Ivan Supek” and the 1^st technical school “Tesla”, Mesic said that war profiteers should not be unpunished.

- War profiteers should be punished because that is a war crime. Everyone who goes into war for their personal needs damaged Croatia, and this is why I support SDP and all of those who advocate the sanctioning of those profiteers – said Mesic.

Talking about the functioning of the Hague court, Mesic said that those who are responsible should be in the Hague, and repeated that the verdict for Martic is proof that it all started with Milosevic’s aggression on Croatia.

- The Republic of Croatia is ready to make available all documents requested by the prosecution. I hope that all Croatians will have the chance to bring forward their truth – concluded Stjepan Mesic.

Answering the question, will it be proven to the Hague that there were no war crime projects in Croatia, Mesic answered that the country is ready to give any evidence that the defence and prosecution seek, but it is up to the court to decide. He added that he believes that the court “will judge correctly”, or that it will not make a politically influenced verdict.
