Left-oriented Croatia is a boon for citizens and right-wing serves to profit and that's it, that's how Zlatko Komadina used to say before the Parliamentary elections in December last year. Two months later, he made the opposite statement in a blink of an eye when he announced to news reporters 5 thousands dismissals in the Croatian Railways (HZ). Which Komadina is real? The one before the election or this current one?
The minister of traffic hasn't kept us in confusion for long time, as soon as he reported the correction of wrong quote. Those 5 thousand people of excess in HZ were a lapse, said the minister Komadina in the early morning show of Croatian Radio. His self critic confession surprised public and the radio host as well. So 5 thousand out of 17 thousand employees of HZ necessarily won't get fired. The families of HZ employees can feel relieved since there won't be every third family that will lose monthly incomes, as the way it seemed like until Komadina didn't report his own ''lapse''. The number of 5 thousand refers to those workers who are a part of main HZ business, in other words, a transportation of goods, passengers and infrastructure. And how many people will be ''taken care of'', as they use this euphemism for dismissals, this information will be familiar after a plan of reconstruction and modernization being created. It will be known after some stronger groundwork of shape and staff needs in HZ, rather than the approximate evaluation about 5 thousand people of excess.
And that is good news, of course, if people can understand that mass dismissals and ''taking care of'' won't bring luck to those who manage to hold their jobs by far. This lapse of the minister Komadina will be forgiven more easily since, as it is shown eventually, dismissals don't have to be announced in a completely callous and almost sadistic manner. Because the announcement Komadina’s colleague minister was in that manner when he talked about the campaign being send to bankrupt like ''it's a dead guy that is about to be buried.''
How much people will lose their jobs in the Croatian railways doesn't depend about subventions that the company receives from the budget, but it depends on administration the Government will hire over there. Public and private companies are like their administration top. If the Government doesn't ask a lot from those administrations, it won't get much of them. And if it fills administrations by criteria of party loyalty ignoring the competence, the Government could end on a political market as an excess like those dismissed workers...
While the minister Komadina is obviously starting to see that he talked about HZ's excess without real preparation, a trend of playing with the round number of ''five thousand'' employees who will get fired, is repeating on some other places. That many employees will be thrown out from other public services. That news was announced after the meeting of the Government, trade unions and employers. If the Government's insistence of putting those companies back in order by firing people will get stalled, if there are no more visible moves in increasing incomes and expanding businesses, the Government won't be enjoying the current exemption of media and public.
It will be a ''lapse'' that won't be forgiven, unlike Komadina's lapse was.
