Minister Suker: 13 Percent Interest Rate is a Lie

Text

Anticevic-Marinovic angered minister Suker by asking what people will do when interest rates reach 13 percent, which he considers untrue.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - During the start of another Croatian parliament meeting, the SDP (Social Democratic Party) parliamentarian Ingrid Anticevic-Marinovic asked the Croatian Minister of Finance Ivan Suker, what will be of the citizens and what the cabinet will do when people find themselves on the streets when they are unable to pay their loans after interest rates reach 13 percent.

“People took loans, you promised economic growth, and everyone is being threatened by interest rates of 13 percent. Will you like premier Sanader call the presidents of banks or will you calmly watch when the banks start to take the assets of the Croatian citizens with repossession orders?” said Anticevic–Marinovic to minster Suker.

Though a laugh, Suker said that this is the first time that he has heard of rises to 13 percent, stressing that it is unnecessary to frighten people with unfounded allegations.

“You have revealed something that nobody knows. Not I, or the bank presidents, or governor Rohatinski do not know that the interest rate will be 13 percent” “The Croatian banking system is stable, and Croatia passed the financial crisis nearly painlessly.

If you continue with your politics of frightening, you will be in the opposition for a long time. This announcement of yours is not true, and you motive is not clear to me” said minister Suker.
