Mrksic Testified to Support General Gotovina

Text

The former JNA general and convicted war criminal Mile Mrksic, appeared as a witness for general Gotovina’s defence.

The first artillery strike against Knin when the target was the army of the so called Republic of Serbian Krajina (RSK), the north army barracks and so called presidential palace was very precise, said the former JNA (Yugoslav People’s Army) general and convicted war criminal Mile Mrksic before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). He said this as a witness for the Croatian general Ante Gotovina’s defence.

The artillery was aimed effectively and exactly on those targets, whilst rockets were randomly fired on the city. I am surprised you are looking for the artillery diaries, and not the rocket ones

Mile Mrksic, former JNA general and war criminal

Talking about the first artillery strike against Knin, during the Croatian military and police liberation operation “Storm”, Mrksic said that “it was a special artillery strike” and that “as a general, I am interested where the precision came from to hit a small target in the city”.

On Monday, the defence of the Croatian generals Markac and Cermak will question Mrksic. At first Mrksic did not want to testify, but then the court made a binding order for him to appear in court. In an effort to meet him half way, the court allowed his lawyer to be present, which is usually not the case in the Hague court.
