Text

The European praxis wants the Constitutional Court judges to be outstanding in their work and to have a long work experience, said Mesic.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - Slavica Banic, Mario Jelusic and Duska Sarin vowed as new judges of the Constitutional Court in front of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, Minister of Justice Ana Lovrin and Deputy President of parliament Vladimir Seks.

However, at the election of Judge Banic, she remained stained by accusations she does not fulfill all the conditions necessary for taking the office as judge of the Constitutional Court.

Banic allegedly has 15 years of work experience in the legal profession, and many of the discontent with her election stressed that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has given her that office.

New judge Banic commented accusations to her alleged incompetence in carrying out her duties as Constitutional Court Judge.

- These are really idiocies. I will soon give an answer to all vilifications about me that came from the media – Banic briefly commented.

In his speech, President Mesic congratulated the new judges, and said that the elections of Constitutional Court judges in Croatia are in contrast with the European praxis.

- The European praxis wants that the Constitutional Court judges are outstanding in their legal work and that they have a long working experience- Mesic said.
