In ten years, Miroslav Kusanic has demined around 500 mines because of which he is facing up to 3 years in prison
Self-taught deminer of the Ceric village near Vinkovci has been demining fields and the ground around his village. The last ones he extracted with a hay-fork and when the police came to get them, they reported him.
Namely, due to unauthorised withholding of explosive matters, he is facing between three months to three years in prison, and a parole sentence is possible, the Jutarnji list daily writes.
Homeland war volunteer has been extracting mines ever since he got back to his home village, and with 1,100 kuna of pension he had no other choice.
He is disappointed with this decision and said he will not enter the mine fields again, and he has the support of the local community which is grateful for all the saved lives.
In the Nistar municipality, 12people died of mines after the war, and 14 more became invalids.
