Buric received a letter in which threats are made against him, but also against his children
Deputy prefect of the Osijek – Baranja County Dinko Buric, member of Glavas' Croatian Democratic Congress of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB), talked to the press today and said that he had received an anonymous death threat.
The threatening letter
"Back in mid-March, I received a letter with a postal stamp from Valpovo at the address of my doctor's office in Belisce, in which death threats are made against myself and my family. The letter states, among other things: 'In the times of HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union), we were on good terms, until you changed," "Keep going like this, you will not be doing it for long, and you also have children, so justice can catch up with them too," "You had better withdraw, or you will not live to see May."
It was precisely the last sentence that prompted Buric to start talking about everything and inform the police, which he did yesterday. He had kept quiet until now because he did not want to upset his family and the media also speculated on his doctor's office in Donji Miholjac at the time.
The straw that broke the camel's back and the reason why he reacted was the event that occurred on Monday, which his neighbour had warned him about. It was then that his house was photographed at close range by reporters Drago Hedl and Mato Jerkic.
"What was Hedl doing near my house?"
"The even upset my family a lot, especially the children. I wonder what Hedl, who is known for hating Branimir Glavas and all his associates, was doing near my house only seven days before the expiration of the ultimatum given to me," says Buric.
He has asked the police to protect him and his family and to restrain Drago Hedl from coming near his home. He also claims that he will sue (the regional daily) Slavonski dom and Hedl over this, but also for previous compromising allegations about him.
In the end, he sent the message that he would not be silenced by anyone and that he would remain faithful to his associates and the HDSSB program.
Hedl: Journalism consists of investigation too, not just press conferences
The called out Slavonski dom and Feral Tribune journalist Drago Hedl remained cold to being called out and pointed out to the local radio that he had been in front of Buric's house because of a report he was working on.
He had come to see if the official car was there because he had been informed that Buric was using it for private purposes. In the end, he reminded Buric that journalism also consisted of investigation and not just press conferences, at which anything could be heard.
