Parliament stripped Zoran Vinkovic of his immunity

Text

Gordana Sobol said that there are different standards for different parties and mentioned a similar case that never got prosecuted.

Croatian Parliament stripped the SDP's representative Parliament stripped Zoran Vinkovic of his immunity of his parliamentary immunity on Friday and the State Attorney's Office may prosecute him for the suspicion of embezzlement.

State Attorney suspects that Vinkovic committed a fraud while in the service and that, as mayor of Djakovo, he demanded state to cover his official travel expenses while using his private car.

According to the prosecution, he caused 12.500 kunas damage to the Parliament.

Although SDP’s spokeswoman, Gordana Sobol, supported the abolition of immunity, she also argued that different criteria are applied for representatives from different parties.

She warned that another parliament member committed the same offense and that the State Attorney's Office failed to raise a criminal report.

Although Sobol did not name the disputed parliament representative, earlier media reports suggest that she may be talking about the HDZ elected Kreso Filipovic.

- I ask the Croatian Parliament to ensure the same criteria for all - urged Sobol.

Parliament placed a hold on the parliamentary mandate held by the HDZ representative, Vladimir Ivkovic, who will be replaced by Milivoj Skvorc.
