DOWNTOWN ZAGREB
JULY 19 2009 13:17h
The rainy and cold weather caused the centre of Zagreb to be deserted. Heroes are known for their bravery. There were none this Saturday.
ZAGREB, CROATIA - The bad weather which caught Zagreb with strong rain and cold weather, drove away the traditional guests from the café bars in Bogoviceva Street.
The Saturday tradition of drinking coffee and being photographed for the various Croatian media was, unfortunately, stopped. This time the main fashion accessory were umbrellas and the occasional autumn piece of clothing.
The dark city atmosphere caused the absence of famous faces, whose company would let us forget about the Croatian politics, at least until the next weekend.
The pensioners were also not too happy with having to go shopping in the rain and cold, whilst the rest of the people had to face the cold, hopping from leg to leg, whilst drinking their coffee.
We can only hope that next week Cvjetni Square will show itself in its real shine, with full café bars, girls in summer dresses which show more than they hide, and famous Croatian personalities who will share their knowledge with the ordinary citizens.
We would most like to suppress the image of the many open umbrellas somewhere deep in our subconscious with the wish to leave it there. If only the mayor had covered the ‘celebrities’ street’ and installed floor heating, things would be nicer and more interesting. Why did the recession punish us so bad?
However, to avoid being totally sarcastic, there were some young girls who immediately jumped into short sleeved shirts and hot pants at the first sign of sunlight, showing themselves in the best light, like the best promoter of Croatian tourism in these hard times.
Take a look at the photo galleries: Downtown Zagreb - Cvjetni Sqaure, Downtown Zagreb - Tkalciceva Street.
