ZAGREB, CROATIA - Spectacular, beautiful, indescribable, are the words that tens of thousands of Zagreb residents used to describe the experience from the International Fireworks Festival that was being held this year in Zagreb, in the Bundek park.
The light wind and occasional cloud was perfect weather for the final night of the competitions, unlike Saturday when it was raining. However, the weather was cold, but it did not bother anybody. The people came in crowds, took the ideal positions on the stage, the embankment of the Sava River, and the surrounding bridges a few hours before the night spectacle itself. People enjoyed themselves on the various luna park rides, along with popcorn, pancakes, barbeque food…
The band “Gazde” took care of the music atmosphere, and called those gathered to dance. The children mostly gathered around the entertainment rides and fairy floss stands, whilst those slightly older went for a walk. Of course, there were couples in love who waited for the fireworks in romance.
Then it finally started. Bundek went totally silent and delight swept over everyone. Zagreb’s residents watched every explosion and colourful play in the air with excitement. It was so beautiful that even some cars stopped on a nearby bridge and put their hazard lights on, to watch and photograph the show.
“I regret that it is quite cold and I could not enjoy this great manifestation. It is great that Zagreb has something to offer the tourists as well as its own citizens” said the 29 year old Ivka.
During the three days event, more than 15 thousand rockets were fired, and the effort that was invested into the event was paid back by the loud ovations from the gathered citizens. It was the loudness of their cheers that determined the winner of the international fireworks festival. On Friday, fireworks technicians from the Philippines showed their skills, on Saturday the Polish showed what they could do, and on Sunday it was the Romanians’ turn, who did not manage to confirm their winning status. The winners were the Philippine team.
In the end, the organizers of the event, “Pirotehnika Mirnovec” treated Zagreb’s residents to their own show.
