MINISTER'S RESIGNATION
JUNE 13 2007 14:00h
Text
MPs of the SDP today entered the parliament in ‘YuBitu’ shirts and asked the interior minister when he was planning to resign.
At the question time in the Croatian parliament, MP of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Nenad Stazic, asked Interior Minister Ivica Kirin whether it was true that he had ordered a surveillance of Internet portal servers.
The question related to the recent issuing of clips on YouTube in which Minister Kirin was shown
giving awkward statements. After the clips appeared, Kirin allegedly ordered a surveillance of the servers of Internet portals. At the time he said that such films were the creation of members of the SDP. With this statement, Stazic said, the minister had caused anxiety and insecurity among all Internet users.
SDP members of parliament today came into the parliament wearing shirts on which was printed “YuBitu” (Yoo Bee Too – referring to Minister Kirin’s mispronunciation of YouTube).
‘Minister, when will you resign?’
-Internet users are wondering whether they would be affected by your repressive instruments when they get on-line – Stazic said, asking the minister when he would submit his resignation. Kirin refuted questions about statements to the media, adding that he did not know who authorised Stazic to speak on behalf of the Internet public.
-If you are truly not responsible and if the SDP is not doing this, why do you object so much and try to accuse me as interior minister that I had used ministry services to do such things – Kirin replied, adding that even Internet experts had explained the process by which such things are established. He continued to say that Stazic evidently did not care about the truth or the dignity of the parliament.
‘I cannot top you in your commenting skills’
-Mister Stazic, I certainly cannot top you in your commenting skills, but you should know that I do not have the authority to order such investigations – the minister said, explaining that a court order was needed in order to conduct such investigations. The minister concluded that Stazic could demand his resignation from the party president.
